Legal History of Foster Care in the United States Training

Wednesday, September 28, 2022
5:30 pm6:30 pm

The legal history of the American foster care system may not be what you think. Even today's foster care system is often misunderstood. From unregulated orphan trains and indentured servitude to today's challenges of disproportionality and poor outcomes for transition-aged youth, this convoluted history is a story of continuous imbalance between intention and impact. In this hour long presentation, you will learn about the origins of foster care in the United States, the evolution of the child welfare system from our country's inception up through its modern era of the last 50 years, and why your advocacy is needed.

This Zoom presentation will be led by Jackson County CASA Vice President of Operations, Claire Terrebonne, and is open to CASA Volunteers and to the public. Please invite anyone who may be interested in attending. To RSVP, visit: http://evite.me/wTzkDYDhqb.
