More Happy Endings
Every day we are privileged to see the difference that CASA Volunteers and Staff make in the lives of abused and neglected children in Jackson County. Here are a few stories we can share:
- CASA Volunteer Margie Carder helped two young kids, 10 and 12, reunify with their mom in October. The children came into care due to medical neglect, and Margie worked diligently with their mom, her boyfriend, and Children's Division to solve the problems and create a safe home for the kids to return to.
Four siblings – ages 12, 8, 6 and 5 – found a safe, permanent home when they were adopted by their maternal grandparents. This was the second time these kids were in care. CASA Volunteer Ann Goodrich was their volunteer both times. Ann was awesome on this case – very involved with the kids' schools and therapists and advocating for services for the grandparents. Ann was able to sit at the table during the adoption and make her recommendations directly to the Commissioner.
CASA Volunteer Amber Simpson stepped in to help on a recent case. This lovely 5-year-old girl has been in state care twice due to her mom's drug use, but mom is clean again and was able to reunify with her daughter. CASA Case Supervisor Laura Williams worked on this case for a long time, and Amber's support meant a lot to this little girl.
